Written quotes, same currency

Compare the whole bill.

A replacement sticker price and a repair estimate may cover different things. Put callout, labor, delivery, installation and removal on the correct side before comparing them.

Use this after the fault and proposed repair scope have been assessed. A lower quote is not evidence that the part is faulty, and this calculation cannot establish remaining appliance life.

Unknown costs stay unknown

Enter four confirmed amounts. A blank extra charge is not treated as free. If an item is unknown, get the quote clarified before comparing.

A delivery charge can change the gap

This hypothetical example uses one currency and invented amounts to explain the arithmetic. It is not a market-price estimate.

Worked example: complete repair and replacement costs
LineRepairReplacement
Quoted base amount300400
Extras not in the base50200
Complete total350600

The initial sticker-price gap is 100. The complete-price gap is 250. Repair equals 58.3% of replacement in this example. An additional 250 of repair-side cost would close that gap; this is a break-even amount, not a prediction that another repair will occur.

What the calculation does

Age, repeated faults, parts availability, downtime and repair warranty matter, but they are not converted into a fabricated failure probability or an automatic “replace at eight years” rule.

Evidence and limits

The FTC warranty guide explains why written coverage and claim terms need checking; it does not endorse this calculator or a repair-cost percentage. The formulas and worked comparison are our planning analysis. Local consumer rights and quote terms control.
