Which filter are you looking for?

Whirlpool’s model-specific response describes lint and small debris leaving with the wastewater. That does not mean the drain can never become blocked. Looking beneath the agitator or following a front-loader’s filter-door video is not part of the routine cleaning described for this model.[2][3]

Removable lint filter
No routine cleaning task

Whirlpool’s answer for WTW4816FW says there is no removable filter needing cleaning.[1]

Drain-pump filter
No easily accessible filter

Continued drainage trouble needs diagnosis; there is no owner filter cap to open as a first step.[2]

Water-inlet screens
Separate supply-side screens

The manual discusses inlet-valve screens in its filling and rinsing checks. They do not catch lint from clothes.[3]

Lint or pet hair remains on clothes

Page 14 addresses sand, pet hair and lint. It suggests the 2 Rinses option and a suitable wash cycle; match the cycle to the garment’s care label.[3]

Try the supported rinse setting on a normally sized load. Record whether the residue changes before looking for replacement parts.

Clean the tub and accessible dispensers

The guide recommends washer cleaning monthly or every 30 washes, whichever comes first. Its Clean Washer procedure uses an empty tub; wipe dispenser residue with a damp cloth instead of prying off trim.[3]

Follow the complete procedure and cleaner directions. Do not mix cleaning products. If your controls differ from the guide, obtain the manual for the full model on the label.

Water remains after the cycle

The drain/spin table considers hose installation, excess suds, loading and trapped small items. A missing filter-cleaning step does not establish which cause applies.[3]

Compare the visible setup with the manual. If water remains or the pump keeps running without emptying the tub, contact Whirlpool. Do not tip the washer, open the pump or disconnect a hose while it holds water.

Filling or rinsing is the problem

The manual separates inlet supply and screen checks from drain problems.[3]

Use the filling and rinsing section for your symptom. Do not remove a screen or detach a pressurized hose to search for a lint filter.

If the problem remains

Give Whirlpool the full model and serial number, the selected cycle, whether water remains in the basket, and any light pattern or unusual noise. A photo of the controls and visible hose setup can help describe the problem.

If there is a leak near electrical parts, a burning smell or grinding, stop using the washer and seek service. Keep clear of wet electrical connections. Cabinet removal, pump access and lid-lock bypasses are outside this guide.
