LG WM4000HWA / HBA: find and clean the drain filter
The filter is behind the small cover at the lower front left, facing the washer. Unplug first; drain through the small hose before opening the larger filter cap.
Drain first, then clean
Turn off and unplug the washer before opening the cover. Let hot water cool. Put towels and a shallow container nearby. If water is near electricity, do not touch the washer or plug; stop and get help.
- Open the small access cover. Leave the large filter cap closed for now.
- Place the small hose over the container and remove its plug. Drain the remaining water; do not pull the hose far out. If water will not drain, stop before opening the filter.
- Refit the hose plug. Unscrew the filter counterclockwise, keeping a towel underneath for residual water.
- Remove debris and rinse the filter. Refit it clockwise until seated, secure the hose in its clip, and close the cover. Do not force either part.
Check the result
Before reconnecting power, check both closures: the small hose plug and the large filter. Keep the floor dry. On the next wash, watch for leakage and stop if any appears.
What do you see now?

The hose does not drain, or the filter will not turn
Leave the filter closed if water may still be trapped. Do not use pliers or loosen cabinet panels to force access. Ask LG for help with the exact model.

Stop using the washer. Disconnect power only from a dry, safe position. Recheck the hose plug and filter seating with power disconnected; persistent leakage or damaged parts needs service.
The filter is clean, but OE comes back
A clean filter does not confirm that the pump has failed. Continue with external drainage checks before considering parts.
