Midea Duo drain hose: Cool, Dry, Heat and no water flow

A hose on one outlet does not drain every tray. Match the outlet to the task below. If the hose stays dry, check the separate stopper and the hose route before assuming a pump has failed.

For MAP12S1TBL, MAP14S1TBL, MAP14HS1TBL. This is a portable Duo guide, not a Midea U window-AC guide. Suffix variants need their own manual. Heat instructions apply only to MAP14HS1TBL.

Which outlet should you use?

Use the rear-view drawing on manual page 8 to identify the outlets. Do not choose one by hose fit alone.

Drain task and operating mode
Task or modeWhat to check
P1 on the displayEmpty the bottom tray, then close its drain before restarting. Use the P1 drainage steps.[1]
DryThe manual uses the upper outlet for a continuous hose. Check the connection and drain destination.[1]
CoolMidea describes evaporating condensate through the exhaust; humid conditions can still fill the tray. Continuous drainage is an option described below, not a universal requirement.[2][3]
AutoAuto can select Cool, Fan or Heat where available; it does not select Dry. Check the actual mode and your model.[1]
Heat · MAP14HS1TBLA hose is required at the middle outlet. Follow the heat-pump drainage drawing on manual page 18.[1]

For MAP14HS1TBL, Midea Team’s Lowe’s answer permits upper-outlet continuous drainage in Cool or Dry. It describes a gravity route: the discharge must stay lower than the outlet. This answer is tied to that model; confirm the instructions for other versions.[3]

The manual’s pumped lift allowance belongs to the Heat connection. It does not mean an upper drain hose can run uphill.[1]

Can a 3/4-inch hose connect straight to the unit?

For MAP14HS1TBL Heat drainage, page 18 describes a 3/4-inch extension at the adaptor on the included hose. It does not specify 3/4 inch as the diameter of every outlet or replacement hose.

The same page permits pumped lift up to 6 ft (1.8 m), while its drawing labels the lift “< 6 ft.” Keep the route below that limit, avoid kinks and direct the end downward. This allowance does not apply to the upper gravity drain.

Before buying an extension, identify the included hose and adaptor. Compare the three models’ hose and joint catalog records. Do not assume a bare hose includes the joint. Check the manufacturer’s connection drawing →

Hose connected, but no water comes out?

Switch off and unplug before checking an external drain connection. Prepare to catch water before opening it. If water is near electrical parts, keep clear and get help.

  1. Check for a separate stopper. The catalog lists a cover, 12120600A00839, and a stopper, 12600801000048, as different pieces. Removing an outer cover may leave the stopper in place. Match your outlet to the model drawing and part photographs.
  2. Check the hose route. An upper-outlet gravity hose needs a lower discharge point. Routing it up to a windowsill does not create a pumped drain. Check the visible hose for a kink or pinch.
  3. Check the display. If P1 is showing, follow the bottom-tray procedure. A dry upper hose does not tell you whether that tray is empty.

Refit any unused drain closures before operating. Do not poke tools into the outlet, remove cabinet panels or bypass a water-level sensor.

If P1 stays on or returns, record the model, mode, outlet and timing for Midea support. No flow by itself does not identify a failed pump or an internal blockage.

Common questions

Does Cool mode always need a drain hose?

No. Midea’s portable-AC FAQ describes operation without one, with occasional tray drainage in humid conditions. Follow the instructions for your exact Duo model and respond to a P1 warning.

Will an upper hose stop P1 from returning?

It is not a guaranteed repair. If P1 repeats after bottom-tray drainage, Midea directs the owner to service. The code does not establish which component is at fault.

Do I need to buy another cap or plug?

First check whether the existing stopper is still present. If a piece is missing or damaged, use the exact-model part guide; a listing for “Midea drain plug” can refer to a different appliance or outlet.
