Midea Duo P1: how to drain it and when to call for service
For US models MAP12S1TBL, MAP14S1TBL, MAP14HS1TBL. Check the full model number. The Heat instructions below apply to MAP14HS1TBL.
Drain the bottom tray
If water is near the plug or electrical parts, do not touch the unit or plug. Keep clear and get help.
- Turn the unit off and unplug it.
- Prepare a drain location or a shallow collection pan. Water can flow as soon as the plug is removed.
- Remove the bottom drain plug and let the water drain.
- Refit the plug firmly before reconnecting power and restarting.
Plug missing or damaged? Check the Duo drain-plug and cap records before restarting with an open drain.
See page 18 of the Duo manual. Allow for its three-minute compressor restart delay.[1][2]
Already using a drain hose?
For mode-by-mode instructions or a hose that stays dry, see Duo drain hoses: Cool, Dry, Heat and no water flow.
Check which outlet it uses. The manual assigns separate outlets to these jobs:[1]
| Job | Outlet |
|---|---|
| Empty the tray after P1 | Bottom |
| Continuous drainage in Dry mode | Upper |
| Drainage in Heat mode, MAP14HS1TBL | Middle; a hose is required |
The rear-view drawing on page 8 identifies them. A hose connected to the upper outlet does not confirm that the bottom tray has emptied.
For MAP14HS1TBL, Midea Team’s 2023 Lowe’s answer permits upper-outlet drainage in Cool or Dry mode and describes a gravity-fed setup. Keep the discharge below the outlet. The manual’s allowance for pumping water upward applies to the Heat connection.[3][1]
P1 keeps coming back after draining?
P1 clears: record whether it returns. Midea’s FAQ notes that humid conditions can require draining; it gives no standard interval.[2]
P1 stays on or returns: contact Midea US support. Use the checklist below to describe what happened.[1]
P1 alone does not identify a failed component. These instructions cover draining and the point for seeking service; they do not establish the cause of repeated warnings.
A dry upper hose does not prove the bottom tray is empty. Check the external drain setup, then use the service checklist if P1 persists. Do not open the cabinet or bypass the water-level protection.
What to record before contacting Midea
Keep these notes together so support can distinguish a tray that did not empty from a warning that returned later:
- Full model number and country of purchase.
- The display code and any message in the app.
- Operating mode and the outlet used by any drain hose.
- Whether water came out of the bottom drain.
- Whether P1 cleared after restarting, and when it returned.
- Any visible leak, with a photo of the outside drain connection if safe.
Have the receipt and service paperwork available; the manual’s warranty page lists these records. Ask Midea to confirm coverage and any diagnostic or transport charges before booking service.
Build a service note
Record what happened after the safe external checks above. Leave unknown details as “Not checked.” No diagnosis is inferred, and nothing is sent or saved by this tool.
