Washing machine · Check result and next step

Washer drained, but clothes are still wet: what to check next

First establish whether water remains in the tub. A washer that emptied the tub but left a wet load needs a spin and load check; wet clothes alone do not identify a drain-pump fault.

Two records that prevent a wrong pump order

Record water in the tub and the final spin as separate observations. A pump moving water and a drum reaching its intended spin speed are different functions. Write down the cycle, selected spin speed, exact display and whether the load contained a single bulky item. Do not defeat the lid or door lock to watch it.

Emergency-hose flow is a third observation. Water leaving a small gravity hose proves only that water was removed through that hose. It does not test the powered pump. Conversely, hearing a pump hum does not establish that the drain path is clear. These observations answer different questions and should not be combined into a claim that a pump passed or failed.

A comparison load has to be comparable

LG lists restricted drainage, unbalanced loads, lower-speed cycles and excess suds among reasons for wet clothes. Compare a suitable balanced load using the documented setting, only after any leak or violent movement has been resolved. A delicate cycle is not a useful benchmark for a high-speed cotton cycle.

If loading changes and the spin completes, keep that result before buying suspension or drive parts. If the corrected load still fails to spin, give service the exact code and sequence: fill, wash, drain, attempted spin, then stop. A code identifies the reported condition; it is not a parts order.

Use the result to choose the next step

These branches are our interpretation of the linked guidance. They narrow the next action; they do not identify a failed component.

Water still remains in the tub

Use the drain route before trying another high-speed spin.

Next action
Follow the exact-model retained-water instructions and inspect only the accessible hose or filter. Do not open a filter while trapped water may be hot or uncontrolled.
How to verify
Check whether a documented drain cycle removes water and whether reassembled closures stay dry.
Stop point
Stop for a blocked emergency hose, a stuck filter, leakage or inaccessible plumbing.
Compare the drain installation checks →

Tub emptied, but the load is wet

The wet load does not by itself support a pump purchase.

Next action
Record the spin setting and load. Follow the manual to correct imbalance and use the intended spin option; keep the door or lid interlock intact.
How to verify
Compare an appropriate balanced load and note whether the final spin completes.
Stop point
Stop if violent movement, repeated imbalance or a new fault code remains after the supported correction.

Filter cleaned; the same drain fault returned

Accessible debris was removed, but the drainage complaint remains unresolved.

Next action
Check the external route and installation against the model manual. Ask service to separate a restriction, pump performance and pump command.
How to verify
Retain the exact returning code, water level and time in the cycle; a clean filter alone is not a passed pump test.
Stop point
Stop repeated resets or cycles when water does not leave.
LG WM3050CW model-specific follow-up →

Balanced spin completed after a load change

The corrected load worked for this cycle.

Next action
Keep the cycle and load details. Observe an equivalent suitable load before treating the first complaint as a failed component.
How to verify
The next equivalent load completes without a code, violent movement or leakage.
Stop point
Arrange diagnosis if the symptom recurs despite the same supported setup.

Before accepting a parts quote

  • Did the technician observe a failed drain or a failed final spin?
  • Which model-specific test supports the proposed pump, suspension or drive part?
  • Will the repair include a drain, spin and leak check after reassembly?

Keep the complete model, sales region, observation and check result with the quote. A catalog match establishes compatibility, not the cause of the complaint.

Questions that follow this check

Does a humming drain pump mean it works?

It may show that something is energized or turning, but it does not establish adequate flow through the complete drain route. Keep sound and water movement as separate observations.

Can I use LG Spin Only buttons on another brand?

No. Use the complete model manual. A matching symptom does not establish a matching control sequence or accessible filter.
