Air conditioner P1: Midea Duo and GE ClearView need different checks
P1 is not a universal air-conditioner code. The linked Midea Duo manual identifies a full bottom tray; GE ClearView manual 49-5000634 Rev. 5 identifies P1 as a pump problem and FL as a full internal tray.
Match the label before following the code
Write down the full model, selected mode and exact display. The shared letters P1 do not establish a shared component, outlet or reset. On the two designs compared here, the manuals describe different conditions. A search result headed “P1 drain fix” is incomplete until its model matches your label.
The physical water route matters as much as the code. A portable Duo bottom-tray outlet and a ClearView right-side drain are not interchangeable instructions. Do not remove an unfamiliar cap, add conventional outward tilt to a ClearView unit or drill a condensate pan because another model’s article suggests it.
Record what happens after the documented drainage
For Midea Duo, the linked manual describes P1 with cooling or dehumidifying stopped while the fan can continue. Fan movement therefore does not establish that cooling has resumed. Use the exact drain guide, refit its closures and retain whether the protection code clears or repeats.
GE’s ClearView drain/reset route includes a cap and filter plug, followed by the documented SLEEP reset when safe. A code that persists after that procedure moves the next step to GE service. The useful result is not “I tried resetting it”; it is the exact code, documented route used and whether the code returned.
A dry hose is not a complete water-path test
Keep mode and outlet together in the record. Continuous drainage and bottom-tray emptying serve different purposes on a Duo, and the heat-capable model has its own mode requirements. A dry hose in one operating condition does not prove an internal pump failure. If there is no code, record the first wet location, mode and installation history instead of borrowing a P1 instruction.
| Model / document | Code meaning | Use this route |
|---|---|---|
| Midea Duo models listed on the linked manual cover | P1: full bottom tray | Matched Duo bottom-tray guide; service if protection repeats |
| GE AHTT06BC owner-center manual, Rev. 5 | P1: pump problem; FL: full internal tray | ClearView right-side drain/reset instructions; GE service if persistent |
| Different model or no matching document | Meaning not established by this comparison | Manufacturer lookup with the full model and region |
Before accepting a parts quote
- Which exact manual defines the reported code?
- Did the documented drain/reset clear the code or did it persist?
- Does the proposed part match the complete model and the observed water route?
Keep the complete model, sales region, observation and check result with the quote. A catalog match establishes compatibility, not the cause of the complaint.
Questions that follow this check
Can I use the GE SLEEP reset on a Midea Duo?
No. That reset is documented for the ClearView controls described here. The same display letters do not establish the same reset or hardware.
Does a running fan mean P1 is fixed?
Not on the cited Duo condition: the manual allows the fan to continue while cooling/dehumidifying is stopped. Check the code and the selected operation separately.
